Help please.

Some one help me please, the problem is listed down below.

Today, when I copied Photoshop installer and installed in the notebook I'm using now, it worked weird. The Photoshop is CS4 version, it worked smoothly on another notebook. The notebook specs are worse compared to the one i am using now. The processor is something like Pentium, the one I am using now is something like Core 2 Duo. The one I am using now also has a NVidia GT8700 graphic card. But when I am using the Photoshop now in the Core 2 Duo notebook, it is alot lagger compared to Pentium core notebook. Not sure why will it happen but it shows alot of 3D things that I'm not sure how it works, is there a function to turn it off? It runs smoothly on another com thats without all the 3D icons etc in Photoshop. Sorry for my bad English and computer knowladge. Hope that someone will reply this thread asap.

increase the amount of RAM ps can use...
and try increasing the number of cache levels

this can be done by going to edit>preferences>performance...

hope this helps

Firstly, I would advise using any Photoshop from 7.0 upwards, as long as it's not CS4. CS4 was the big step up from CS3 and included a lot of new things, however, just as vista was the step up from XP, it was almost a beta trial for the new things, and everything ran like shit to put it bluntly. I would either go with CS5 or CS3, just like I would only use XP or Win7.

CS4 takes a lot of juice to run, especially on a laptop or a notebook/mac, increasing the RAM usage as Andy suggested above me can help, but be wary that this takes RAM from other applications, even background ones and can make them run slow, in turn making your computer run slower, which ultimately makes CS4 run slower. Your computer is clever, as is Photoshop, and will designate a sufficient amount of RAM usage based on what specs you're running, I would only increase Ram as a trial run and as a last resort.

If you have an external hard drive, or 2 hard drives built in, then set your scratch disk in photoshop to use the HDD that isn't running the OS. You can do this by hitting Ctrl + K which will take you to preferences, and then go into the performance tabs. If you're using a lot of history states, ie: over 100, then reduce them as this can also help a lot.

Run a disk cleanup from your system tools, you'll be surprised how much crap this clears up, ultimately speeding up your system. I decided to run one at work yesterday and found 69GB of temp internet files, error dump files etc.

Run a defrag, this re-arranges stuff, making it easier and faster for your system to access files and partitions.

press your windows key + R to go to run and type in "msconfig" then go to boot programs and untick unnecessary stuff and restart your pc.

Another thing you can do is go to task manager, go to processes and find PS, right click on it and go to "set priority" set it to "above average" but no higher. This designates more processing power to PS, but any higher than "above normal" can and probably will cause system instability.

Hope this helps, I do most of the above on a weekly basis, and haven't had any problems so far.
Hello.
Thanks alot for you all's helpful replies, I just formated the computer last week but at the first few days, it run smoothly, and the hdd is still empty, but this few days, I found out that it worked weird and abit slow, not sure why. For the increasing the performance suggested by ATC Design, I tried and it works still the same. D: And why is the CS4 I used in 2 computers showed different things? One with 3D function but one no, the settings are all default and can the 3D function be turned off?
