I'm honostly impressed, I think you've done well to start from a sketch and bring it into PS and create this. I could certainly tell that practice with that kind of form of art will enhance your overall brushing skills with chopping. That's for sure. It's a good way of practicing gradients, lighting, depth and all that sort of thing.!
