Smoothing a render question

Hi,

I have a background in CAD/CAM so 3d modelling isn't new to me but I am new to programs like 3DS Max and VRay. This work is in the WIP section but thought I would ask the question in here as I am hopefully going to get a better answer. I have modelled the below in 3ds max and rendered in vray. Messing around I rendered it as chrome and notice the reflections aren't quite right in a few place circled in red.

Now my question - Is there a way to do any sort of analysis to the model to determine the 'smoothness' of it without rendering it, moving a little, render again, move a little, render again etc.

The odd reflections:32796562954_ce12549fcf_o.jpg

sure this is not a MESH "issue ? it looks like it maybe the Vertex are not welded there ? can you post a MESH and then we can see, try and weld that area as well because that will be the only cause i tihnk
jackdarton wanted to help but he's senile and can't remember his password..

I'm not sure about 3DS max but in a lot of other modeling programs you can use Matcap materials, which is basically a real-time reflection map based on the surface normals. You get identical performance to using your regular material, so you lose nothing. Also, in your preferences, you might be able to change the default way meshes are displayed, changing specular sharpness, strenth, light directions, etc

Also tell Glac it's nothing to do with welded verts, it looks like an edge loop linking the rear arches creating a sharper line

Thanks for the replies guys, I have no idea if it is possible in 3ds max either but I'm sure it's nothing google can't answer :D

IDK, if my answer would be helpfull or not, but sometime the reflection distortion caused by a few things in polygonal modelling. it hard to answer the question here without seeing the wireframe.
I am pretty sure it is just a problem with the poly modelling, I just didn't want to have to spend 10 minutes rendering it everytime to see if I fixed it. I also didn't know where to begin looking for any analysis or real time reflections which I have since found.

However, here is the wireframe. I am sure there are lots of problems with it xD but it's my first model
