Brushing Tutorial Series - Part 1, Basic Techniques
I thought I'd create a small videos of tutorials that go through the creation of a body panel on different cars, with increasing levels of difficulty and using more and more advanced techniques.
Part one introduces the concepts of colour sampling and blending simple colours for simple reflections.
The PSD file used in this project is available to download from the video description.
Expect further parts too, that move onto slightly more advanced techniques and outdoor refelctions, before finishing with a free-brushed panel.
The main thing to learn from this videos are the techniques of sampling, and using surrounding existing panels to inform you - you can use these to work out what colour should go where. While you're doing this, you'll hopefully also begin to learn what a wide range of colours are needed to make realistic paint that isn't 'toony' or 'flat'.
Following these videos I will go into more detail of some of the techniques I use while brushing, and how I deal with more complicated parts. This will include some general rules to follow when trying lighting, and the common errors made.
Stay tuned for more
