Photo Effect

hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows the name or how to do the effect like in the image below?
I can't really put my finger on how to do it. Its the effect where the blacks in the image aren't true black but a bit lighter and tinted a certain colour
eg:

I think it's Exposure (expecially the second and third entries) and Colour Balance (only Dark/Shadows tones). ;)

The effects can be achieved by a reverse gradient in Photoshop and then playing with layer settings. As far as car chops go though, wish peeps would stop trying to emulate this effect, it only hides details on the actual car.

I don't know that it is exposure cause that would change the brightness of the entire image
I've got a sneaky suspicion that it might be a filter on the lens of the camera

It's the offset, You can achieve it easily by going to Image- Adjustment- Exposure

That particular one looks bad in my opinion, better to mixx with it when having a sunflare in the picture.

This.

I think Pin Light works the best. make a gray layer on your work, set it to pin light and reduce the opacity to 60%. It basically replaces all the dark areas with the selected colour. Many also use a bright blue.

When used right this is such a nice look.

How I get that effect is by making an Exposure adjustment layer. Lower the exposure and raise the Offset slightly. Set the blending mode to Lighten. You can then adjust the Fill % to your liking. Note: Not "Opacity", but "Fill". Fill will allow you to dial back some of the effect on your shadows.

If you have an issue with losing detail, you can make another layer on top of everything that contains 50% Grey. (Multiple ways to do this). Then you can set it to Overlay and dodge the areas in which you want to bring back detail in the shadows.
