Autemo’s Jetta Community Project
Also known as “Project Potatohead”
Also known as “Project Potatohead”
Welcome everyone, to something unique and never before seen within Autemo, or any other chopping community for that matter! Let’s get right to explaining what this is all about.
The victim of our project is a poor Volkswagen Jetta. This Jetta is one of the most simple, generic cars in the world. Nothing about this car is special or unique. So what better car to show off what the Autemo community can do?!
But you will not just be chopping the whole car. Because that would not be very special. Instead, we are providing 2 views of the Jetta, front and rear. Each view is divided into parts. Bumpers, doors, interior and so on. You will be chopping this car one part at a time. And you can chop as many parts as you like. You can even just do different versions of the same part!
The goal of this project is to create a Jetta with many different possibilities. In time, parts that have been submitted will be combined into a web page that will allow visitors to customize the Jetta using all the different parts you provided. This will be the ultimate showcase for what Autemo is capable of!
Q: How do I participate?
A: Participating is very easy. Below I have provided 2 different PSD files. In the files you will find the base car and the layers outlining which parts you can chop. Warning: The selections of these parts are a bit rough, because they are only meant as a guide. Before submitting your work, double-check if all the parts fit right onto the car. Using the parts as a guide you should be able to get creative right away!
Q: What are the rules?
A: To make all the parts people design fit nicely together in the final assembly, there are a number of rules you must follow. Because this is something we have never done before and requires a lot of work, we will keep it basic to begin with. Important things to keep in mind are:
- The base color of the car will stay the same. ONLY change the color of the part if you want it to look different from the other parts. Using carbon is an example of this.
- Do not resize parts of the car.
- Do not move parts of the car.
- Keep the edge markers in place.
- Do not modify it to look like another car. We are modifying a Jetta.
- Obey the general Autemo rules for chopping. >LINK<
- Follow the parts guides below to understand which parts can overlap other parts.
- Autemo reserves the rights to the parts submitted.
Q: How do I submit my work?
A: Once you are done modifying your part, hide all other layers except for the “Markings” layer. The “Markings” layer exists to keep the dimensions intact and to allow the parts to be aligned. You then SAVE your image as a PNG file. Make sure before submitting you follow the file name format outlined in the parts guides. Use an image host that will keep your file name intact.
Next you save and upload an image showing your part on the base Jetta. Post BOTH links in this thread to submit your part. Don’t forget to use IMG tags to show off your part on the Jetta!
Q: I am less skilled, is this a problem?
A: Not at all. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Because choppers of all levels will be participating in the same challenge, you might even learn something in the process! This project is designed to bring people together, so do not be afraid to ask for advice if you need it!
Q: Will there be other cars in the future?
A: If the Jetta project is a success, we might do this with other cars in the near future. It is important that this goes well so that eventually we can move on to even more challenging projects.
Q: What’s with the Project Potatohead?
A: Mr. Potatohead was a loveable children’s toy. The beauty of it, was that it had different limbs you could change at will. That’s exactly what we are doing to the Jetta.
Q: Is there a deadline?
A: No, this is an ongoing project. It will come to an end eventually but not for the forseeable future.
Q: Is this done in rounds like Rd1 chop the headlights, Rd2 chop the bumper?
A: You are free to pick which part you want to modify, when you want to modify it and how many times you like to modify it. Be creative!
