Chop reel idea(s)

Would it be possible to have the chop reel at the top of the front page automatically display the chop that is the top topic in each of the showrooms? That way every new chop is always shown 'in public' at least once, and everyone gets their 5 seconds of fame... And it will automatically display whatever is the most popular (most commented) chops at any time more than all the other chops, so it's very democratic ;)
As I am a noob when it coems to programming and this whole interwebbz thingy, I don't know if it will be too much work to set it up, but I kinda think the idea is flawless :)

Anyone else can come up with other ideas if they want to :P
Some men just want to watch the world doing burnouts... :P

The problem is that with the way the system is currently coded, we Staff have to manually upload the thumbnail image of the chop, as well as type in the thread id (the string of numbers after t= in the url) in order to have the chop go up in the reel.

In order for your idea to work, there would have to be some manual uploading process of your own 180x110px thumbnail of your chop.

If the pre-defininied chop thread format will be impleneted, this wont be a problem anymore ;)

I think what you're trying to say, is that if we use the predefined format, then we won't need to have people reuploading the thumbnail size because all that will be needed is to resize the uploaded "chop" image.

It depends. I currently crop each image to fit the 180x110px format. People post their chops at all different dimensions, so for the chop reel to look good, they need to be the same dimensions (doesn't look as clean otherwise). But if there was a cropped image uploader as well as a chop uploader in the predefined format, then it shouldn't be a problem.

This, is what I meant. There should be an uploader where teh chopper must upload a 180x110px format, and that way, Mark doesnt even need to implement an auto resizer. And ofc everything would became easier :)

EDIT: The small image could even be a little different, its up to the artist.. I mean, like if the car is too far on the background, and it would be too small on a 180px pic, he could just crop the image to show the whole car, but not that little ( I think you did this to my AE86, because on the original chop theres 1 big line on the bottom and another on the top)
Playing devil's advocate again: If we start displaying chops on the reel based on their post date we'd see

- A few dozen times as many new/intermediate chops as pro/advanced
- Stance chops. Stance chops everywhere. Not worth showcasing on the reel over original ideas.

Well I gotta agree here. And cant even imagine how this would work out honnestly. But still, I believe if we use the predefined format, it would be a nice touch for the admins if the cropped image uploader would be implemented too. ->> Easier, faster etc.
