Nissan Micra K11

RIGHT This first post is just going to be copy pasta from another forum. There'll be a big paragraph but you can just look at the pretty (or not so) pictures if you like.

Nissan Micra K11 Si, 1.3, 16v, DOHC. Oh and it's bright Green.

Picked it up from Manchester from a guy off here (forgot his username) and drove it a good 2 hours+ home. Hadn't driven a car in a while and that was my longest journey ever, and I somewhat enjoyed it!

The guy mentioned the drivers door central locking doesn't work and that you have to lock it from the passengers side. I assumed this meant it locked both doors, but I was wrong. Dad tried the drivers door after I locked the passengers side and it opened. Tried locking form the inside, didn't work. So I'm pooing it a bit as my mum left her car open last night and some crettins went through her stuff, don't think they took anything. Anyway after a bit of fiddling it's locked. Anyway my nana came round and showed me the 'old fashioned way' of locking it and now its locked! Also there's some rust on the offside wing, and one of the spotlights is out. Oh and it squeals on full lock.

Drives nice, took just over a quater tank back from Manchester which is 120 miles +. Pulls well in high revs. After 80 it got a little juddery if that's the word. Guy told me it understeers pretty easily so don't race it into corners braking last minute cause ill just go straight on (after driving it for a bit ive not experienced any understeer although I never like slamming it into corners too hard). Suspension is a little soft I think as when I let off the gas on the motorway you could see the headlights dipping as it slowed down then lift up again when I went back on the gas.

Right ive figured i'll explain it all then just post a load of pictures and you can make of them what you will.

So after I bought it I attacked the bit of rust in the bay near the offside strut. Just got primer on it at the moment as havent bothered getting a matching paint. Tried to get the bit on the arch but gave up.

Took the door card off after a lot of swearing, being confused and cold hands. Tried to see what was up with the locking mechanism but couldnt work it out so just whacked some oil on it and have been driving round without a door card since.

Then I realised it had an oil leak that the seller failed to mention. After a bit of asking around and worrying I found out its the engine seal around the crankshaft near the gearbox side. So went to a garage and the changed the oil etc and put an additive in the oil. Ended up costing me bloody £90! Pretty sure they could've replaced the bounder for that price.

Added a couple of stickers and a domo kun to the rear view mirror. Then took the grille off and painted it. That was a b*stard to do so was driving around with no grille for over a week.

Bought some rims off ebay. Lenso BSX, 15x7. The guy had over 70 watchers so said first person to offer me 250 can have them. I messaged him offering 250 posted, at first he said no but sent a message straight after saying okay. They don't come with the centres but he threw in some BMW ones that ive gotta paint and work out how to put on. Then I bought some tyres, 165/50/15 Nankang ns2's.

Then yellow film on fogs.

Tehn got my tyres fitted...
Went to the place I was getting them fitted at at 9:30am. Saw a slammed golf outside on BBS with a WW sticker so thought okay these guys know what they're talking about anyway. Went in the front door and mentioned I'm here to have some tyres fitted to which he asked 'oh yeah, stretched?' with a smile on his face and some hand actions to imitate sidewalls. Went round the back and saw some sound bloke who said hell just try one see if he can do it. Had a chat, he had some Rotiforms there to go on his golf, I love people that have a sense of style. Anyway after him and his colleague talking they couldnt really do it but out of pure luck another guy turned up from another garage and they asked if hed be able to do it. So we went over to the other garage and he did it a piece of cake.

He asked what they're off on and I said the Micra, some other lads that work there came out and were talking to each other about how sick it's going to look. They also said if I pull it in theyll fit them on for me, might as well theyll do a quicker job of it than me! Anyway got them all on and we all loved the look of it, apart from that damn arch gap! He asked what phoenix motors (first place) were charging I said £6 a wheel. He said he wasnt going to bill me on the machine cause they charge more for it I think so he said just pop a tenner in when I can!!! Buzzing, £2.50 a tyre for mounting, balancing, new valves and fitting on the car! One of the lads there had the same wheels on his Passat, went to look at it and it was sick. Slammed on the same rims but with purple centres, so awesome. Starting to meet people with a bit of taste now rather than all the chavvy crap I see! Anyway I didnt bring my spigot rings but ive since put the front two on, only thing is they're 73.1 when the CB of the rims is only 73 so took some banging etc to get in.

Here's some pics from the seller and one I took while it was light at the service station next to my dads car.

After being annoyed that I'm a forgetful bast. (had to get out the car and find the locking wheel nut as id left it on when I took the car around the block).
IMG_0824.jpg

So I fitted my new sidelights and foglight bulbs. The foglights are absolute bastards to get back in and they're still not in properly ive just managed to wedge them in place without the bulbs disconnecting (finally). Sidelights look quite good lit up but in the day the blue bulb makes the headlights look a bit turd.
Anyway pictures...

Finally working but neither f them are in the holder thingys properly I just cant get them to screw in right.

Havent got round to emailing them back yet after they told me to send a photo, i've been really ill and its not been the top of my list, hopefully theyll still send another replacement.

Will be fitting this this weekend hopefully.

And that's all folks. Will make sure i get a video of the noise maker. Plans after that is to get the new wing sprayed and fitted, try sort the locking out as climbing over the gear stick every time i get in isn't so fun when you're 6' 1 in a Micra. On the look out for some coilovers 2nd hand but theyre like rocking horse shit for Micras.
Haha! That's actually pretty awesome!

I love the yellow and green colour combo. Are going to lower it? It's so damn high at the moment.

Don't even get me started on lowering mate theres a big debate over it. I've got a few options. Basically 50mm lowering springs are over £200 so no. Theres a couple of other setups i could use but it means modifying coilovers and cutting springs which a) i cant be arsed to do and b) do not feel confident doing. So like i said im just going to wait for some Micra coilovers to pop up 2nd hand (theyre damn expensive new)
50mm lowering springs, they make those? :o
Couldn't you settle with 35 or 40mm's (+-90 pounds on ebay)?

Wouldnt get rid of the arch gap :(
1 person liked this.
its really cool , but..... it will only come to lofe after a proper lowering

how it sits now is a bit silly (no harm intended) if this where lowered it would be like bam booom and whow .. it will pop and become one bas ass looking ride

so imo save every penny you got , dont even buy decals anymore and get it lowered

the thing is with the rims you run it just needs a adjustable suspension ..
just because then you can get it to sit perfect , so it looks right and also is drivable..
and most important its stiff so you will be able to go lower and still drive it ..
because on springs the chance / risk of hitting the arches or wells on higher speed bumps (freeway etc) is very high
the stock dampers are not stiff enough to run springs with such a agressive wheel size / width

so just save up and keep your eye out m8 def will be worth every penny if you get ot propperly lowered :P :-d

Awesome car- have seen it driving round a couple of times actually. Looks pretty smart :-d
I prefer engine oil and overalls to nail polish and fashion any day♥
Cheers Rich, i can only go 50mm lower anyway due to insurance but i suppose i could blag another 10mm. I weight about 90kg anyway so it sits a little lower when im in it :P But yeah i hate seeing the arch gap every time i come to it. Going to try get some wheel spacers made up for the rear so they will be barely legal, but the wider stance should make it appear lower.

And thanks kate, im usually driving like a nob though because its actually nippy for a 1.3!

i know about 1/1000 people who have actually mentioned anything to insurance about lowering. its a very rare thing they can find out
I couldn't care less, it's my first car i want to do things by the book. Even though i haven't declared my rims or air filter yet but hey.
