WTB 2012 - Change the format?

I know I'm not alone here in saying that the WTB seems to have lost its hype and prestige. When it started in 2008 it just seemed a bit more special, and almost a privilege to participate in. But now it seems more like a chore.

Personally I think it's a bit too long. Only days ago the winners were announced, and in the coming weeks (if all goes to schedule) the registration thread should be opened. I believe we need a change of format. So I'm opening this thread to hopefully get some ideas for the admins of what we can do to get the WTB back to what it was.

One idea I thought of is to have fewer, longer rounds. This means more people being kicked out of the competition each round. I mean, if you just scraped through round 1 of the WTB, it's almost certain you wont make it to round 4 or so, let alone round 7! In most divisions all you needed to do to pass the first round was to put a couple hours work in as a lot of teams didn't even submit. So I think if we give teams a little more time per round and make it a little more difficult to make it to the next round, they'll be able to put more effort into the competition and we'll be able to see higher quality chops.

Another idea I had was to have just one very long round. Perhaps a 2 or 3 month deadline. Then we could have voting on each division to determine the best few chops from each division, which would go to a final voting stage to determine the winner. I think this would really force people to put their best efforts in right from the start. This way the competition wouldn't last all year - I find that by this time of the year I've already forgotten that the WTB is still going XD

Everyone is welcome to post their ideas here too. :-d

We're always open to ideas as you know mate, and we take on board everything everybody asks us/suggests. I think you raise a very valid point, but the only thing I would advise against is the deadlines for each round being so long. There's a lot more hype at the beginning of the WTB I believe because it's at the beginning of each year when it starts, when people aren't worrying about exams or any holidays.

What I would suggest, to add on to what you did is to implement fewer rounds (more knockouts per round) but keep each deadline at about a month long. That way, we could have say... 4 rounds. First round - half of the teams go through, Second round, half of those go through, third round - 4 teams go through, final round - top 3 are established along with our winner. It's a simple structure, but one I believe could work. What do you think? That way, it avoids the competition running so close to the end of the year when Autemo is a lot less busy than it is usually.
Hello.
Yeah I think we both agree that it really seems to stretch out over the whole year which makes it a bit too long and your suggestion is a good solution. I'm keen to see what others think too.

Is there a level you have to reach to be allowed on a team? Because I didn't join in time for the WTB last year? And how do I get on a team? Thanks

no level restrictions what so ever and its you who finds a team or other members from your country :)
Perhaps we should have a limited number of places available?
That way we don't have so many teams to go through and won't need so many rounds to wittle them down to the final few teams.

Perhaps some sort of qualifying system? Dunno. Agree on it being too long. Got bored by round 5 last time :/

Agree with ATC.Some qualification could be good.

everything that this thread was meant to say is good, a great idea, jacks proposition was good asweel, although this one sounds really really good, but.... how do we chose teh team that can enter? by skill? how long they´ve been members? first to assign?

alot of people might get hurt and end up getting less motivation to chop if they get kicked before even being in the comp :P

Imo, doing a qualifyng system implies that the name of each team is not revealed, cos the majority of the people vote the most known and noble team. So according to my idea the teams will numbered in order of registration to the competition, like a rally championship
