The lines on the UV maps are 100% exact to that of the model so there's really no stretching going on. Only bit where some stretching happens is on the top of the wide arches and the top of the front fenders as their UV's are projected from the side. I could have done a separate UV mapping of the surfaces facing up but that would have made the UV map a lot more difficult to work with.
So the bonnet UV's are 100% exact to the polygon edges on the model. The bonnet just is more dense than the other parts. Just paint away. If it looks strange when I apply it we'll see if there's fixing needed.
And it doesn't matter how accurately you paint inside the lines. Actually a little better if you paint a outside the map so the edges on the body parts will be solid and not have another color hiding in there. Only the area where the parts are on the UV map will show up on the model in their respective locations. It is advisable though to keep the background around the body parts black since that makes the file smaller and easier to transfer.
Just a couple of days left people! Make sure you send the hi-res image into my e-mail when you're finished!
