24H Le Mans 2021
Had the privilege to visit Le Mans this year for the 24H race and what an experience it was!
I arrived on the thursday afternoon of the race week and spent as much time as the track as i could...
Thursday i got to see the Road To Le Mans cars, Le Mans Legends and the current World Endurance Championship contenders take to the track with closing at almost midnight!
Friday the Porsche Cup cars took over the track followed by the Le Mans Legends for two races and the Road To Lams guys once again for another round.
Both days were windy and casual 20-25C so pretty good track conditions.
And then Saturday!
Started with an early morning run of the Porsche Cup Race and another show-off race from the Le Mans Legends as well as the Road To Le Mans cars...those all finished by around 12:00ish, at which time everything went silent and the anticipation for the flag drop of the 24H Le Mans began.
16:00 was the race start officially but as the minute drew closer so did the clouds as the almost 60 race contenders took to the start/finish straight. Before the race I got to witness what turned out to be a historical moment in Motorsport as Fernando Also took his Alpine F1 to the track...and funny enough he floored it, it wasn't just a "show-off media lap"! But i gotta be honest the noise of the V6-Turbo F1 was an embarrassment compared to some of the cars I got to witness during the weekend (including some GT cars...*cough* *cough* Corvette)
After a rather anti-climactic start behind the safety the grid was let go after 2 laps and the race began, 24 hours of pure racing...sitting in the grandstands just at the end of the pit straight overlooking the infamous Dunlop chicane provided some incredible views for the upcoming day of spectating!
As i only had an iPhone with me for pictures i felt it'd be easier to just take videos rather than try take reasonable pictures so here's a link to an dropbox where you can check out the few bits of footage i've got from the event!
Enjoy it guys, i hope the phone's camera and mic give across some of the sound and power the cars showed in real life!!
