I agree with many of the points made here. As someone recently learning 'automotive' editing likely at a much older age than most everyone here, I've tried posting my images in the forums asking for comments for improvement, but rarely got anything of value...mostly silence. There are different types of critique pending what the person is asking for. What little I got seemed rather rude, snide or just belittling the image. And most all were as if I'm supposed to imitate others in the editing techniques and types of popular mods rather than helpful comments towards improving the type of images I enjoy creating.
Any group can begin developing cliques of those with higher skills or perhaps just more time practiced at editing. I would hope this should not be an issue of concern to new people just by the mere time practiced at this certain type of editing. However, I felt as a newbie here that unless one was already an expert at digital painting and part-swapping, that beginners were basically unwelcomed. So I had quit posting in the forums here asking for advise and suggestions towards improvement of my concept ideas.
I also saw the rating/voting feature basically being a clique thing too as I would have appreciated even a 5 or 6 vote and some respectful tips towards improving my earlier images. But it seemed as if it was only used on friend's images, or maybe some really good ones that stand out. So I figured it was just another obsolete feature here that nobody used anymore.
What I would seek for feedback on an image is -
First.. Seeing the image for what it is, not what you would have done or prefer.
Then seek how to offer helpful suggestions of improvement in editing, proportions, missed details, or whatever else as needed or being asked for.
With the commonality of discouragement with my images here, I nearly quit doing these altogether. However, since the short time I began editing car images, I've now had two multi-image projects published in printed magazines. So please don't discourage newcomers as they may just need some practice time and helpful advise to improve.
And that's my input to this...
