2014 Chevrolet Camaro Toon - sketch, rendering, t-shirt

Hi Autemo!

Haven´t been active here for a loooooong time. Sorry, for that! But real life is calling me and it´s good, it does! xD

I shot my own photos of that roadrunner, sketched the wheelie and painted it all digital with my grafic tablet in photoshop. I worked with the original referencepics, to take the colors of EVERYTHING with the pipette and paint it with the brush in my work. references, i couldn´t shoot my self, i got from facebooksites. (Like fire out of the exhaust and the smoke of the burnout) I just wanted to include the original Cartoon Roadrunner, but this way too much to me and i´m done and fine with the result.

Referencephoto for the paint: (don´t wonder about the license plate. i fliped the image over. had a better lighting on the paint, than the other side. i took 360° photos ;) )

Any thoughts, comments, critiques? I want something to reed about this! xD

Fantastic work and I love the choice of car! I'm a big fan of these early 70's Chargers/Roadrunners. Here's something for ya to read!

The pose looks good although the rear arch strikes out a bit a bit flat and makes the car's rear end look narrow. Some phattening wouldn't have been out of place at all since it's a comical caricature anyway. The shapes of everything else are alright. The grille looks superb, the engine looks good but unfortunately it's missing the detail inside the blower you have drawn in the sketch. Good eye for detail on the wheels' off-load camber too!

Only things I don't like is the tire smoke and the radial blurred wheels. First, the blur. Judging by the pose of the car I'd imagine the rear wheels still have a lot of traction and the car is only starting to accelerate from a standing start so the wheels wouldn't need that much motion blur or tire smoke. The front wheels even less since they are not touching the ground and the car isn't a 4wd. The wheels do look awesome and technically well-made though, only the blur doesn't match the setting.

Second, the smoke. It can be tricky to make tire smoke in photoshop due to a lot of things to take into account to make it look believable. The problem with your smoke here is that it has no volume and no definition. At the moment it looks more like fog. I'm aware the "weather" does get kinda "foggy" when there are cars doing burnouts for a while but then again, this one doesn't look like it's been doing that. For example, there should be a lot of sharpness where the smoke would be thicker due to the spinning tires throwing it around and colliding with surfaces like the road and the car's wheel wells. I'd say the key on this piece would be to make a couple of smoke clouds on the most important areas (behind the tire, inside and around the wheel arches) and at least tone down the fogginess.
COOL!

Thank you! I got it so far!

It´s my first toon rendering. And the smoke should give more atmosphere. No I know I worked with to much blur. With the next piece, it´s in work yet, I´ll give it more sharpness and maybe I´ll publish a version with and without smoke, to compare. I aöso took the book "How to draw Crazy Cars and Mad Monsters" by Thom Taylor from Motorbooks International, to get the ideas of drawing cars making a wheelie and doing a burnout. I still try to understand how to draw real believable smoke and how to render it. But for my first piece, it´s good. Thank you for the critique and the compliment! I´ll try a better one with my latest projects. I´m drawing a classic hemi and the 2012 Camaro! And the Camaro is my first commision! *g*
Sounds great!

Thom Taylor's books are always very high quality. I got a couple of his books here at work as well.
Hey friends!

This is my fallowing artwork. The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro with "Chevy Metal" theme. I got the idea in a previous drawn classic Camaro. But my client wanted me to draw his new favourite car. It didn´t mattered what I´m drawing, so this is the outcome and he´s loving it! he paid the most of the money. The rest I´ll get soon and he´ll get a posterprint. It tooks me one and a half month, during last year´s end until the first days of january, with a break within the holidays. It was fun to make it and a lot of people like it. So I want to know your opinion! Leave me some lines! Thank you for looking at and I hope you´ll like it too. Influences of other automotive artists you´ll find throughout my complete portfolio ;).

I was drawing the sketch from the original wallpaper first, then scanning it in and rendered all in PS with my grafic tablet again. Same technique, like I used for the roadrunner.
