dont know too much about 3d but been wanting to try for ages
although the dish looks smaller at top then side, for your first i think its great!
may not be the tasiest design ever but your starting somewhere and this will help for future 3d design

Thanks guys (and will).
I can assure you that the dish is of identical size all the way around...
Its just the render makes it look otherwise... cos there are black reflections on the chrome... which blend with the backdrop
