What typically happens on other "reviewing" sites is they separate average rating and user review ratings.
One thing I would love to see personally is the ability to see who rated how much. If there's a spike in either direction you could always call out the person to justify. If the person then elaborates there's no issue. One thing though, if you implement such a system you run the risk of people sticking to the average even when they've got perfectly justifiable reasons to vote high or low, just to avoid any hassle.
The current rating system however is very user friendly. You see a chop, if you have nothing to add to a thread you rate it and if something comes up you're still free to post. Some of you veterans probably remember how bad it got on Digimods where the only way to rate was by commenting. Peeps would make 3 word posts like "that looks great" or "love the rims" and had you think why bother posting.
You could always split the rating system into categories. Like;
Originality <0-10>
Quality of brush+c&p <0-10>
Presentation <0-10>
Style points <0-10>
User level recommendation <1-5> (newbie-intermediate-pro-advanced-elite)
