The car model is pretty much ready. Still lacking the rear view mirror. I hope I remember to make it! Lately I've been mostly fiddling with the materials and all that. Still needs a lot of work to make it look how I want it to cos for now it looks shit. :D Rendering is hard!

Also, here's a close-up of the wheel with the brakes in place.

Looking absolutely outstanding.

Some of the details are so good. Is this your first 3D car project?

I'd like to see a proper shot of the interior :D

very very nice mate, whats your pc specs?
@Klaus: Yeah, it's my first 3d car. The interior on it isn't complete and making it isn't my focus on this one. It's only got a low-poly model of the dashboard, rear window sill, the roll cage, seats and the steering wheel. You can see the steering wheel on page 3. Here's a quick render of the seat:

@hugo: I've only made the steering wheel and the seat on my personal laptop. The rest has been done on university mac computers. Not sure about the specs they got on them but they are quite fast. I wouldn't even dream of rendering the complete car on my laptop! :D
Annoying setback yesterday: Maya crashed big time and when I tried to open my files it said there was an error reading the file and some data loss may be occurring. Well, it did lose my complete model on that file!

I still had an older version, but the same error happened again on opening that one too but luckily I only lost some parts of the model but ALL of the materials and their settings! So, I had to spend the rest of the day setting up the materials all over again. I think the materials are actually better now though!

Maya and OSX is not a good combination, I tell you. My pc Maya has never crashed! And what I also learned (again) that always keep a ton of back-ups. My problem, though, is that I forget to make them. :P
Damn that sucks!:/

I hope it won't make you lose any motivation to finish this, because it looks great. Sometimes when this happens though the work actually turns out better because you've already done it once before (like you said).

Yeah I will finish this one. I have worked so much on it already that it would be silly to just leave it. I know what you mean though on losing the motivation. I would have let it if I would have lost the body or something else that is really important.

Today I re-made the tray the car is sitting on. It's not that clear from the small render but it's got a tearplate pattern on. And it looks sweeet! I'll post close-ups later. Now I'm off to the wall climb night again.

Here's some new renders. Still previews though.
