i cant understand this really?
and no, eventhough someone will say, im not hating on this idea, i just dont see any use for it
if we lets the community decide, it will go into popularity contest which doesnt reflect skill of each chopper ultimately, since some dont like copypaste chops/brushing/whichever style

if we tie it into competitions, it wont work since majority of people aint interested enough to join those competitions and clearly will just be pushed back since they do their own thing?

more things i would like to see, is like this artist page, to have options there to check the artists threads, etc. more of an oldskool, but still well functioning adds to the forum instead of some pretty cliche ranking system that is basically hard to do properly

better idea than that would be to reward of good activity (but how do you dedice what is good?)
if add some pointcalculator to reward from each message/topic/etc it will just keep feeding them spammers and such on

just my take on it...

yeh, but the competitions thing is good - if you want to keep your rank, you have to work for it
you can't just plod along thinking "yay i'm the best" - prove it
the ability to produce high quality chops on a regular basis is also a key skill, especially in the industry... so perhaps competition points is a good thing, and at least then its fair,

while it won't be a ranking of a chopper, it will be something to compete for - tbh i don't fully understand why the offical comps stopped...

anyway - autemo awards coming soon?

this is what i thought was an sure thing to understand from my post

majority of choppers dont participiate in competitions, yet many of them still post chops on regular basis
your idea basically is forcing people who want to keep their ranking to join in those competitions...

that might cause clashes on many areas since many people also do loads of chops just for own fun too...
I think the ranking system will definitely go ahead simply because it's something that nobody has done before, and it would promote friendly competition, and really push people to "level up" so to speak. If you don't like the whole idea and don't see the point in it, then simply ignore it and post your chops as usual :P i think that there will be a lot of people (myself included) who will love to try and level through the ranks and see how I rank against other people who are similar to me. It would push me to produce an awesome chop just to take the lead over somebody who has 1 more point than me or something.
Hello.
i dont have anything against trying new ideas like this ranking system for example
but since i dont see any working way to get it included, i cant really give it my :-d :-d
nothing too serious about that, just my opinion

though propably there might be an reason why this havent been implented into any other art forum like this before...
it just is hard to get it running properly and keep it as less of an gimmick or "friends judge chops better cause they like the artist"

this would really well if the structure of posting was different or the works were to rated without any signatures or anything over them, so the whole deal could be sorted
but that aint gonna happen and good that it is so

the only way i really see that happening (the ranking system in place) that people who care about the rankings will just go on and try to post more chops to appeal to masses and try to socialise more and more to get their friends to boost them trough the rankings to get some satisfactiom...

ok, ofcourse there will be people who just post their art and thats their contribution.
they are the ones that are really going to go and lose loads of places on the rankings, to bottom or atleast close to it

that is most visible when check trough the choptopics and find almost similar artoworks (based on quality) but the comments they receive arent even remotely similar, because of the more popular chopper gets much more praise from the same thing

same will happen here surely

but, if you guys really are going to push it trough without listening to users, (see how many choppers here actually like the idea) i hope atleast some basic levelling system would be put in place to keep the ranks of each chopper level different from each other...
I think ATC has the best idea here. I think any other method would be too complicated. The ratings system would have to be based on competitions - after all every sport I can think of is based on competitions. In my opinion, being able to produce work when you're either pressured for time or lacking inspiration shows the true ability of a chopper - it shows they're able to produce quality work when their out of their comfort zone. It will also mean a more diverse portfolio for the choppers who compete.

Continuing this idea of competitions, they need to be more specific to particular styles of chopping. Perhaps there could be a brushing challenges, copy and paste challenges and then possibly JDM, VIP or DUB, Time attack, concepts, etc. based competitions. This, as I said, will show the true ability of a chopper. For example, someone like nordic man who brushes all of his chops may wish to compete in the copy and paste competition to have a go at something different. Of course if he doesn't want to compete he doesn't have to, but it would show he has the ability to produce quality work outside of his comfort zone. For someone like myself who does a lot of time-attack/JDM style chops, it would be a breath of fresh air to try something like a concept car. For example - take the 2011 Subaru WRX and redesign it for 2012, bringing it back to it's roots - or something like that.

With that said I don't think there should be an overall global ranking - but it should be more like a year long competition. There does need to be more incentive to compete than what we have in Autemo's regular competitions. I often find myself not having a go because I know that there will be too little competition in them (normally less than 10 choppers will compete). I'm not sure how we could get more people to compete - giving actual prizes is an idea but I'm not sure if the admins are willing to do that.

With the results there could be two tables. One for overall votes or points received and another for the average points received per competition (for those people who had competed in at least a certain amount of competitions - possibly half). This would give those people who don't have the time to compete in every competition the ability to see how they compare at least.

I was also just pondering about the "preferred style" on the portfolios. Perhaps there could be some sort of bonus for the people who compete in styles other than their preferred style. This would promote choppers going outside of their preferred style of chopping, widening their horizons and portfolio.

You dont even know how is going to work the ranking. Why are you so pessimist?

IMO its obvious that 1 "elite level" chop must give you more rank that 100 "protuner level" chops. The problem is how to code all this xD
For me it seems that the exact things people are worrying about ie: people gaining ranks because they're kind, popular, their work is liked, they work well, interact well with others on the forum, post a lot, are active etc are the exact things we're trying to achieve here with the ranking system. I don't see what the downsides are to it at all.

If you like the ranking system - you will fight to climb the ranks and become better, which would be a lot of fun.

if you don't like the ranking system, then just ignore it... simple.
Hello.
I do not know whatever you decide I fully support you in it, so whatever you decide. :D :D
