The checking votes and such is other ideas already which could be all combined ofcourse.

My bad :(
I see now - i had misread it. Good to see we have two identical independent ideas. Sounds like a solution :-d

Personally I think judges would be impractical as in round one you end up with say 30 chops, one guy having to review that many, and then someone has to work out the average of that which would take ages also, one solution would be to have each judge do a certain amount of chops but some judges maybe stricter or have a preferred chopper so that also could be unfair so personally i think that system would not work, i don't think the old system was that unfair but it could be better like if you didn't put team names on the pic so we do not know who chopped each one people cannot go for there country or favorite chopper or anything.

I also disagree with the qualification as that could be taken in a harsh way which also isn't good.

Dont worry about calculations, a simple excel spreadsheet will take care of that.

While I agree with what you have said, is it fair that the 'regulars' so called 'accepted' opinion should be word of law. Perhaps the regulars have it all wrong.

But its a tough choice. Sometimes a lot of effort and time has been put into a very good looking chop, and a much simpler, messier and less technically skilled chop beats it.

Possible solution:
Calculate the Standard Deviation of all the votes, and ignore every vote outside 2 standard deviations of the mean. B) Man i'm so cool.
While that would work, it's too much effort.

So a more practical answer, a bit like these phone in votes on TV
->Judges vote and give a score. This score will count as a certain percentage of votes, maybe 50%?
->Community have individual votes. Judge's score and community votes are combined.

That way we are more likely to get a fair vote, without leaving the power all with one group of people.

I was also thinking about a 50/50 system. I think it's a pretty good idea although it'll take a little bit of calculation by the admins to ensure that the votes are 50/50. This could be done by dividing the total votes from public by the total votes from judges and multiplying this by the points allocated by judges. You'd then need to add the points allocated by judges (after being multiplied) and the points allocated by the public to get their final points score.

Using a standard deviation to assess whether a vote is trustworthy is also a good idea. It can be built into the spreadsheet - I'm no expert in excel but I do know the function is there, I've just never had to use it.

Again, dont worry about calculations and spreadsheet stuff. I can sort that out of needed. Just come up with suggestions because 2012 is rapidly approaching.
