assholes.

Yeah Andy, 8gb ram, more than enough and over 1TB of free space. Getting a new PSU tomorrow, so I think it's just that. My uncle who's getting it for me and who put the pc together thinks that it was too small to deal with the new gpu. it's a 500W psu which isn't high by any standards really.

OK, just spent ages typing this f*cking thread out then when i hit backspace, the page decided to go back and I lost everything -_-

Short story: my pc just blew up. Well, it shut off on its own with a huge flash at the back of the tower. It's now uber hot to touch where the PSU is. Anybody got any ideas of what it might be? I'm thinking the PSU is too small to power everything in the case, but surely it shouldn't go off with a flash like that?

The PSU being too small to power the contents is a good assumption.

So yeah try swapping out the power supply with a spare/borrowed one for now would be my first bet. If it works again then get yourself a higher capacity PSU next time.

Whatever happened I hope it didn't damage any other internals. Heat is a bitch of an enemy to computer parts :(

Keep us updated with how you go.
heh, i wrote an post yesterday about the importance of choosing correct psu but it is wiped out?
anyway, lets hope for the best
Thanks for the suggestions :D

Got a new PSU on the way tonight, I think it's a 800W one which should be good. Another thing is i rarely switch off the pc, and when i do it's for an update so the pc is only switched off for 2 mins. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time the entire thing had time to cool down properly so maybe that's it too. I've got a surge protector in between the mains and everything electrical so fingers crossed there wasn't a huge surge of power to wipe everything out. It's crap, I have work to do for people and I can't because the pc aint working :(
Hello.
couple of times in the the summer i was on mine from for like 13/14 hours in one day and my pc
was like right infront of a wall and the power supply cable overheated and melted inside
so watch out for that aswell if its infront of a wall or something
turn it off everytime you go to bed or away from it for like a few hours :P
