You only really need an amp if your wanting more output from your sub and speakers; well of course you'll need an amp to go along with your sub too. I've a Rover 25 and running in that I've a Kenwood 1500watt sub and kenwood 250watt amp. Technically that's not good cause it's not producing all the power it's capable off, but it really depends what output of power your after.

For the best sub range I'd for for Kenwood or JBL (These have a serious punch from them). As for speakers like 6 x 9's or 4 x 6's go for Pioneer. Very good quality. I intend to upgrade my setup once I get a job that is reliable for me to spend the money on...

Thanks for the input guys. I've decided to drop the sub for now and buy speakers for the doors.
