Now I'd just need to get on modeling the headlights and the insides of the vents on the side. I'm not going to do any material settings before I have the model completely done.
awesome Ollite!
keep this thread updated, really interesting to see!

I really want to try this, so if you or anyone know a good free program to download let me know!

blender 3d?
aint that free, an open source program?
dont know how good it is, never tested it, but i would test it ;)

and for the topic, i think it looks pretty excellent really
interested in the paintjob, if you are planning to do some "special" version ;)
that could be awesome
@nordic man:
Initially I will do the basic white paint as in the photoshop version but once I get the materials and UV maps (the body panels laid out as lines) lined correctly onto the models it's not a lot of work to do different paint versions later. Hmm, actually, I should work a bit more on the UV maps to allow making paint variations easier. At the moment, they are pretty much only laid out to make the simple decal layout.
...

You can get Maya11 (which is what I'm using to make this) from the Autodesk website for free and you can use it for 13 months if you are a student. (Find the link from my topic at General Chat section.)

And as nordic man stated, Blender is open source so if you're not a student you can use that for free as much as you want to. I don't have any experience on that as Maya is the only 3d software I have tried. Generally 3dsmax is "better" for modeling and Maya is "the best" for animating. You can get either one of them from the Autodesk website.
Damn thats looking sick wish my computer was good enough to do 3d :(

But 7 weeks on this that insane. Took me a day with youtube video to make a wheel spoke.

Really cant wait to see the final work :-d

I can't work on that every day so that's one of reasons it's been weeks. In addition to that I'm such a pedantic person when it comes to cars so I want to make it look as perfect as possible. :D

Mondays are when the 3d course is on so I'm hoping I get to texturing the tire then. I've been having problems with it because the UV texture editor in Maya is such a mystery sometimes.

(The message preview doesn't work on here...)
Thanks guys, will try if my computer allowed it :)

Can't wait to see the texturing.
cheers,
Test rendering the wheel & tire.

Also modeled the brake disc. Now there are only the brake caliper to do before the whole wheel is done! Of course I have to modify the rim width a bit to make the front wheels out of this one too but that shouldn't be too big of a project.
Ohh that is so nice!
Rubber need more work. I'm not sure how perfect you want it, but at the bottom of each spokes you should have a small radius. now it too sharp, use same radius as you have on outside the spokes. hope you understand me. :)
