I wonder to ask to admin, I now every webhosting needs money to do everything run smoothly (if not, it will discontinued right..?)..

Now I wanna ask a few question about this Autemo site..:

1.What the engine that do you use for Autemo Forum?

Sure this engine of forum looks like different from the other forum that I've already played to, if any admins that would kindly tell me whats the secrets, I'll sure be give the great thanks of it, :D

2.How the Autemo can run until now?

I know every site always using web hosting to be online like this. but the question is, how can you get an income evenwhile this just a home of Creativity? thats makes me so curious, how can this site can run so long until now eventhat every people come here just to join this site & forum but not resulting any money IMO.. :D

3.What the web system do you use for this nice site?

Do you use Joomla or what..? because I'm so curious to know, why the forums and the site can be 1? I mean, how can the forums can be looks-like integrated with the main site..? Would you tell me again about what the secret of it..? :D

Hahaha, this is a hard coded website mate. I dont think they use Joomla xD!!
The admins are great web developers, thats the secret... Autemo isnt just another simple forum made with one of that common scripts, theres a lot of work behind the user interface.

Im sure Mark will answer all your questions. :-d
Thanks Rec^^!

Ivan, the secret you're looking for is, simply - hard work! I hand made the whole site by myself. Here is some information on what I built Autemo in:

PHP (code)
MySQL (database)
HTML+CSS (user interface)
Ajax (to make the site more user-friendly)
Prototype Javascript + Scriptaculous (fancy effects etc..)

The site doesn't use any forum engine, the site is all custom. I hand made it like this because I wanted to make it my way. Having it this way makes it run faster, and makes it easier to customize and extend in the long run. So it's not based on vBulletin, phpBB, vanilla, invision, mybb or anything like that specifically etc but I did read into those forums code and learn them as well as things like wordpress etc to get ideas of how to make a good forum software. Before making Autemo, I had used phpBB and vBulletin alot from other sites so I had a good understanding of how they worked already.

As for money, clients come to the site and request 'projects' (i.e. come to get their cars chopped). We then organize with pro tuners and higher to do the project and they get the money (Autemo keeps a 10-15% commission to cover things like advertising and paypal fees etc). We hope for Autemo to really start turning over more and more projects and making more money in the near future.

Hope that answers your questions.
Mark, can I pm you about this...? I'll send PM now..
You'll also see a lot more of the things that will help us turn over more projects when the next major upgrade comes shortly. Stay tuned for that!

I know Mark is working hard away at that upgrade right now, while I'm working at getting more work coming through, including going to Tokyo Autosalon next weekend!

IvanCS, as you pointed out it is right, Autemo does take a fair bit of money to run , and more significantly, a lot of effort to develop and administer (cred to the other admins too).

I believe he had a huge medical bill to pay, and asked for money from the members of psu to help pay for it....
i didnt hear from him after that.

However i did hear that the medical bill was fake, and he was driving a brand new mustang or something with the money he got given from the members, i dont know this is true....
CPWerks started the original PSU with another fellow member (Geary) he met from a normal car forum in late 2004. I was an advanced member of PSU at the time and came onboard as admin mid 2005. I rebuilt the site and when CPWerks left shortly after that I basically took over it all as the head from there. It went through a couple of phases were I overhauled it and things started to pick up, I introduced things I built like the ezine, user profiles and so forth. Then we had problems with the website address (domain name) and server when it came to renew it all (because geary lost the info ages before that), so I moved it on over to a new server and transformed it become photochopworld. That went well for a year and a half or so, I think we introduced the first WTB there (big thanks to Jonsibal who was a fellow admin there with us at the time). Everything was smooth then suddenly another problem arose with the new host (hostican.com - never use them!) - in short we lost all the data and files when a server upgrade tried to take place. Things were at a lull for a while where there was no PSU no PCW was around. With no home to go to, the community I had put so much effort in and built up just sadly disappeared and died overnight. I carried on with my normal life and work, however I still had ideas in my head that I had brewing away forever and still wanted to give back to the chopping community and so I got busy coding. That's when I started up Autemo. And I had to build up everything from scratch again, get all the members starting from 0 and in essence just rebuild something which I had been working steadily at to build up over the prior 4 or so years! Fortunately I got a good bunch of fellow friendly choppers as staff members and things rapidly picked up pace and Autemo began doing very well very soon. And here we are today with new things in the works for Autemo and the rest they say is history!
