OK, just spent ages typing this f*cking thread out then when i hit backspace, the page decided to go back and I lost everything -_-

Short story: my pc just blew up. Well, it shut off on its own with a huge flash at the back of the tower. It's now uber hot to touch where the PSU is. Anybody got any ideas of what it might be? I'm thinking the PSU is too small to power everything in the case, but surely it shouldn't go off with a flash like that?

powersupplyunit doesnt necessarily like if you push it to max time after time
if it breaks, it can just stop, blow up or create small problems on random occasions.
but in general it should give you hints of it and shut itself down as precaution if the heat is too big or something

though in general that sounds like an total destruction of it, there can also be other broken stuff on your pc

so i guess good luck in trying to figure out what went wrong, shame thing to happen and i hope it didnt destroy everything

Wow, ye that's a bit extreme... Sounds (and probably smells like) the PSU, but who knows what else might be broken in there as well

I agree with the above. Did you have enough RAM to cope with the Processor too? How much space did you have left on the HDD?

I'd get the HDD out, set it to slave and get it into another machine. See if you can get any stuff recovered off it?

My pc went boom and I lost interest of Photoshop, MSN, Internet and everything. It's depressing at the time, so I know how you feel. Hope you get it sorted.
