POLL: Open Source Chopping

3 people favorited this.
Trying to judge the interest for the following concept:

Some people have the skills/time but not the insight, some have insight but not the skills/time. The idea is for a section/thread where people post designs or partly finished work and are open to input from others. Unlike other sections, you would share the artistic license for your work with members of the forum.

This is not for people who are lazy and just want their work finished. This is for chops to become better and better by getting different viewpoints and skillsets involved. The underlying idea is not for it to simply be a forum-wide team chopping section (although that seems cool in itself), but for people to actually get involved and explain their ideas and methods to each other. Thereby turning it into a learning process. But of course for that to happen, people need to be willing to share, and risk getting good/bad feedback.

This way even higher skilled choppers with limited time could contribute in smaller parts, while the regular choppers with time try to improve their skills and make the most progress.

So, answers:

- Yes I think this is a good idea, because....
- No I do not think this is a good idea, because...

yea I think its great idea because there are a lot of choppers (including me) who likes to learn new stuff but not much tutorials
I also think that its a good idea because I think you learn better and faster new things.
Also you can better focus on individual things and improve them.
Yes I think it is a good idea because a Novice artist can learn a lot if a pro of higher chopper makes some changes to the design and if you send each other the psd files it becomes visible how other people do the stuff you want to learn.

It is difficult because you need to share the PSD files and not the jpeg wip image.

maybe there is a way to do that in dropbox to make the whole thing easier...

It's great because I can unload a bunch of wips that I don't like anymore, but that other people with no imagination and great skill can see potential in...or something :P
Could we make another massive public dropbox folder for this ?
Some men just want to watch the world doing burnouts... :P

Cloud services are popping up everywhere. Dropbox could work, but so could Mega etc. Wanna test the viability of the concept first though.

yes, this might be a good idea, but is it like overpainting with explanation (why i did this a not that), right?

let's say i see some psd chop to download, i'm loading it to photoshop, and see how crazy (within reason) i can go with it, just to show different approach for author of original chop?

sounds great, sometimes i have an idea for chop from wip section, but i don't know how overpainting will be considered, as offend?
This is very good idea. Why? Example me.
I deals with virtual tuning long time ago, but my project still are not what I wanted.
I wanna learn some from better choppers, and this is good method for that :-d

Interesting concept and one I think certainly needs exploring further. I think it is something that is quite difficult to see how it will work or how well it will work until it is tested.

My main concern though would be it becoming a 'I can't be bothered to finish this' or 'I don't have the skills to finish this' so someone else can.
