The Chopping Dictionary
Hey guys,
It's often hard for people new to the art to understand what the more experienced people around here are talking about, especially when giving feedback. Here's your one stop shop for (hopefully) all your queries.
___________________________________________________________________
ASC: All Stars Competition. An annual knock-out based competition for Pro Tuner and above artists. For more information visit the ASC/BPC Sub-forum.
BG Background. In a chop, it is what sits behind the car.
Brushing: The digital "painting" of an image or parts of it, using tools such as the "Brush-tool" in Photoshop.
BPC Below Pro Challenge. An annual knock-out based competition for New and Intermediate ranked artists. For more information visit the ASC/BPC Sub-forum.
Cheating: Intentionally misleading the community into believing that you have done more work than you actually have. This includes mislabelling your work as re-brushed or fully brushed when it isn't, providing a different base to what was used, and using a base extensively without crediting it. A significant offence in chopping, and may result in a temporary ban.
Chop: A digitally modified image of a car produced in image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.
C&C: Comments and criticism. Usually used in the following way: "C&C is welcome" when posting a chop.
C&P: Copy and paste. Refers to parts of a chop that has been copied off another car or image.
Donor: An image from which you take parts to C&P onto your chop.
Full brush: Refers to a part of a chop that is brushed with little or no reference to another car.
HOF: Hall of Fame. The place to find some of the all-time best chops. Click here to go there.
Over-brush: See re-brush.
Re-brush: Refers to a part of a chop that has been brushed by following a reference very closely for reflections and colour tones. This is usually done if the reference is of poor quality, and the quality of it must be improved to use on the car.
Reference: An image which you use as a sample for reflections or colours tones when brushing.
Render: A digitally modified image of a car (either in 2-D or 3-D).
Stealing: Taking parts off another chop. This is the worst offence in chopping, and will in most cases land you with a permanent ban.
Tut: Tutorial. Walkthroughs aimed at improving your technical skills. Tutorials can be found in the Tutorials Sub-forum.
WIP: Work in Progress. A piece that is unfinished, that you are currently working on. WIPs can be posted in the WIP Sub-forum.
WTB: World Team Battle. The WTB is an annual chopping competition where competitors compete in teams for their country. For more information, visit the Official Page of the WTB.

There will be more than what I have here, so this is just a start. Please feel free to add to this list (or correct a term) by commenting in this thread, and I or one of the other Staff will update the list. Also, if there are any artists who don't understand a chopping related word/term please ask here, and we will add it to the list.
