Anyway, this is the family car, and I thought I would chop it to show them what it would look like- and hopefully they'll like it. Fingers crossed!

Well depens on how much work you want to put into it, but maybe a new fb design, change the bg (maybe to some indoor scene with nice hightlights?) and so on?

Maybe try debadging and fixing the grill to cover up that it was ever there. Might look well but maybe won't fit the style.
