Sure enough this might be old news to some, but I just found out today o.O

The skyline "GTR's" they used in Fast and the Furious 4 were just dummy GTT outer shells with GTR body pieces and VW beetle engines. CHEEAAP! but kinda disappointing <_<

I suppose the movie companies (with the seemingly bottomless pockets) gotta cut corners where they can to try n save a buck! It took me by surprise cos Brians car looked so good. Now I've seen everything

Yeah I think only one of the each car is the real thing, the rest are just replicas. Very understandable since the cars are crashed or even totaled at some point. It would plain stupid to wreck an authentic R34 GT-R or an Evo. Didn't know about the Beetle engine though!

As an afterthought, can you imagine the work involved in editing the sound into those clips where they used the replica car with the beetle engine!? It sure doesn't sound like the real thing so of course they should've recorded the real cars' sounds at the right revs and sync it with the video material! I've just gotten through the video&audio courses at school so I just got to thinking about those things again.

Not suprising tbh.

They do trash the cars to destruction so making the cars as cheap as possible is understandable. Also the Orange & black BMW M5 was actually a 550i with M5 Pieces and fake carbon fibre.

Just to keep costs down as they spend alot of money on making the cars, don't want to spend alot and destroy it in seconds.

i've seen that pic before i knew there was something terribly wrong with it. o.O

All i know is, The proper R34 was at a lock up, and it was stolen by thief's in under 10 minutes,
I think it was uninsured too.

i can imagine the 'yo dominic, there's no engines' jokes that wouldve happened on set

but surely it wouldve just been cheaper to keep the original engines, it wouldve took a lot of work to do

I doubt the movie producers are willing to buy real GT-R's as stunt cars.

But why the rear wheel beetle conversion ??

You guys are right, it would be a waste to trash perfectly good vehicles just in the name of entertainment

But one things for sure, the next time I watch that movie it ain't gonna be the same! I'm just gonna keep seeing them race around in raped Skyline-beetle-frankenstein cars
