WTB 2012 - Change the format?
I know I'm not alone here in saying that the WTB seems to have lost its hype and prestige. When it started in 2008 it just seemed a bit more special, and almost a privilege to participate in. But now it seems more like a chore.
Personally I think it's a bit too long. Only days ago the winners were announced, and in the coming weeks (if all goes to schedule) the registration thread should be opened. I believe we need a change of format. So I'm opening this thread to hopefully get some ideas for the admins of what we can do to get the WTB back to what it was.
One idea I thought of is to have fewer, longer rounds. This means more people being kicked out of the competition each round. I mean, if you just scraped through round 1 of the WTB, it's almost certain you wont make it to round 4 or so, let alone round 7! In most divisions all you needed to do to pass the first round was to put a couple hours work in as a lot of teams didn't even submit. So I think if we give teams a little more time per round and make it a little more difficult to make it to the next round, they'll be able to put more effort into the competition and we'll be able to see higher quality chops.
Another idea I had was to have just one very long round. Perhaps a 2 or 3 month deadline. Then we could have voting on each division to determine the best few chops from each division, which would go to a final voting stage to determine the winner. I think this would really force people to put their best efforts in right from the start. This way the competition wouldn't last all year - I find that by this time of the year I've already forgotten that the WTB is still going
Everyone is welcome to post their ideas here too.
